Abstract
In Aquincum, in the Watertown (to South of the civil town) there were not just one (as it was supposed by the earlier research) but two or three forts in the 1st century AD. During the excavations led by A. Nagy in 2021–2022 in the Bem square more than un dozen Augustan-Tiberian samian wares (more with potter's stamps) had been found. Thanks to this early Italian terra sigillata we can suggest that the first fort in Aquincum had not built about 50 AD, but during the second mission of Drusus or the conquest of Iazyges on the Hungarian Plain, between 17 and 20 AD, together with some other strong points on the Danube (Carnuntum, Arrabona). The second fort in the Bem square can be inserted in the line of Claudian fortifications on the Danube, as it has been supported by a lot of Tiberian-Claudian terra sigillata. The third fort localized by K. Kérdő to the South of ones in the Bem square was occupied between 68 and 89 AD by a cavalry unit commanded to Aquincum in the Flavian time.
