Abstract

The study complements previous works aimed at preserving the memory of the Németh Lutheran teaching family by providing a chronological summary of the life story of Gyula Kovácsics (1850–1899), the father of the spouse of the Lutheran teacher Kálmán Németh (1883–1950) in Rigács. It presents the main stages of Kovácsics’s life, including his educational background, the institutions in which he worked, and his professional credo. The study also highlights the personality of this 19th-century folk teacher from Tápió-szele and Pápa, the innovative educator who advocated clear and illustrative teaching methods, and who was also a cultured author and a humorous association contributor, whose representation and reports his colleagues relied on with confidence. In addition, it portrays him as a loving husband and a devout father who endured the loss of six children, and as a highly respected public figure.
