Abstract

Forced Apart and Brought Together: Selected Papers from two SPECHEL Conferences is the culmination of a number of studies that began life in the form of two conferences. The first was originally designed to be held in Pécs, but the appearance of COVID made a physical event impossible and so a virtual one-day event was held in its stead. The fall-out from COVID meant that some time elapsed and other pressures appeared which caused the publication of written studies to be delayed both by contributors and the editorial team. Meanwhile, a second conference was organised jointly with the School of English Studies of Pécs University with the central theme of the County of Dorset. This, too, was delayed by some months, and so although the first contributions arrived at the editorial table almost immediately, other pressures ranging from late papers to changing external factors meant that now there were two groups of papers awaiting publication.
