Abstract
Contrasting Notre-Dame’s restoration with recent Hungarian monumental practice, the article examines authenticity, memory, and reconstruction. It argues that Paris succeeded through craft continuity, original materials, and careful documentation, while some Hungarian projects—especially in Buda Castle’s Hauszmann programme—risk staging the past without real material or technological continuity.
