Abstract

This study examines the influence of transgenerational spiritual inheritance on family functioning, considering the intersection of family therapy, family pastoral care, and relational ethics. The central argument is that inherited relational patterns, beliefs and rituals, passed down through the generations, have a significant impact on identity formation, family relationships and coping with life crises within a systemic family framework. The paper interprets Christian rites such as baptism, marriage and funerals as occasions for pastoral care that can strengthen family cohesion and facilitate healthy adaptation during transitions in the family life cycle. Furthermore, the study introduces the concept of family theology, integrating biblical teachings on the human person with systemic family theory, and emphasising relationality, covenant and communal responsibility. Drawing on contextual (relational) ethics, the study emphasises shared responsibility, acknowledgement and multigenerational loyalty as vital components of relational healing. The author contends that pastoral rites should be viewed as entry points into longterm family care and pastoral support rather than as isolated liturgical events. Through family-oriented pastoral ministry and the supportive presence of the faith community, these occasions can enhance family resilience, prevent relational fragmentation and encourage the transmission of positive transgenerational values. Therefore, the paper presents family pastoral care as a significant theological and practical resource for protecting and building relationships within families in contemporary society.
