Abstract
This study examines the protective role of church-based mum-and-baby groups for families experiencing a normative crisis. The birth of children often brings about an intense period of change, during which time mothers must simultaneously adapt to new roles and experience a sense of loss of control. The need and lack experienced in such crises may make people more receptive to the gospel. Therefore, as well as providing support for families, Christian mum-and-baby groups also become significant small-group settings from the perspective of congregational mission.
