Abstract
When learning the mother tongue, the social environment and the available language pattern are of particular importance. For children, the primary language environment is the family. The development of language skills is also determined by the child’s anatomical and physiological characteristics, the narrower and wider environment. During my research, I investigated the effect of family background on language development. The language abilities of 87 children preparing for school were assessed (vocabulary, oral text creation, verbal text memory). I used a self-made task set. The examination was supplemented by a parental questionnaire.
