Abstract
The present paper examines the explicitational behaviour of the translator rendering literary prose which is predominantly characterized by its elliptical linguistic form. István Örkény describes his one minute stories as equations having the minimum of the writer’s enouncement on one side and the maximum of the reader’s fantasy on the other. The question is to what extent explicitation as universal feature of translated texts appears in the target text. This paper presents the aims, methods and results of a pilot study focusing on explicitation in the English translation of István Örkény’s one minute stories.
