Abstract
The plebeian tribune Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus is a prominent figure in the crisis of the Roman Republic, who sought to solve the problems of his time with his agrarian law. While his downfall is often linked to the content of this law, which economically favoured the poorer classes over the landowners, it is becoming more and more widely accepted that his demise was more a result of his legal and political errors rather than the substance of his ideas. In my study, I will attempt to examine these - mainly legal - mistakes on the part of Gracchus and elucidate their role in his eventual downfall.
