Abstract
There is a very rich literature on the Roman concept of authority, especially in relation to Augustus. Many writings on Augustus of Numen approach the Roman concept of authority from a religious perspective, examining it from the point of view of the imperial cult as an integral extension of Roman religion. The present work attempts to elucidate the specificities of the Roman concept of authority, and in particular the phenomenon of the numen Augusti, within the framework the Jungian system of archetypes. This is achieved through a clarification of the concepts of numen, auctoritas and imperium in light of the Jungian archetypes.
