Abstract
В статье описывается случай, когда историкам приходит с помощью филология: из сопоставительного анализа перевода на польский язык латиноязычного сочинения об Аттиле явствует, что переводчик намеренно изменил одну характерную черту физиономии гуннского («венгерского» в его понимании) короля с целью приблизить ее к лицу претендента на польсколитовский престол венгра Стефана Батория. | The article describes a case when historians are aided by philology: comparative analysis of the translation into Polish of a Latin-language work about Attila shows that the translator deliberately changed one characteristic feature of the physiognomy of the Hunnic (“Hungarian” in the translator’s understanding) king in order to bring it closer to the likeness of the pretender to the Polish-Lithuanian throne, the Hungarian Stephen Báthory.
